How To Apply Self Tanner

Unfortunately, the majority of us only get to enjoy 3-4 months of that gorgeous summer sun, shining down and giving us that beautiful golden glow. The other 8 months we may get clouds, rain, snow and crisp cool air. So, you may ask, “How can I keep up my tan throughout the fall and winter months?” The answer is sunless tanners.

Sunless tanning is a great way to achieve beautiful color in the comfort of your own home. It allows you to feel pretty, confident and vibrant opposed to pale and pasty white. Women all over the world swear by self tanners and I highly recommend you give it a try.

Here’s the deal, there are a few mandatory steps you must take before applying a self tanner, because if done wrong, it can look terrible. Achieving the perfect tan requires preparation, flawless application and quality products. Also, keep in mind that it is fairly easy to over-apply product, start out with a small amount, and then gradually build up coverage from there. A good way to keep track is to find a self tanner that is colored, rather than clear, this way you can keep track of where you are applying.

How to Use Self-Tanner On Your Face

1.Pull Your Hair Back

Make sure to pull your hair back into a ponytail to insure you don’t miss any parts.

2.Prep Your Skin

Gently cleanse and exfoliate your face but do not apply a moisturizer as it may interfere with the tanner

3.Apply A Under Eye Cream

This prevents the skin under your eyes from getting as dark as the rest of your face which makes you look younger.

4.Apply the Self Tanner

Mix equal parts facial moisturizer and self-tanner in the palm of your hand and apply evenly apply to your face and neck. Also smooth a little tanner over earlobes and upper ears.

5.Let It Develop

Wait 3-4 hours to give the tanner a chance to fully develope. Then follow up with bronzer on forehead, cheeks and nose, all areas where the sun naturally shines for the best natural looking glow. The Wash hands immediately.

How to Use Self-Tanner On Your Body

1.Exfoliate & Shave

This is a very important step to insure even absorption of the tanner. First, use a exfoliating, body scrub in the shower paying special attention to rough areas like your knees and elbows (dry skin absorbs higher concentrations of tanner). Then shave using a body oil, instead of shaving cream. If you’re prone to large pores after shaving, wait about 8-12 hours before applying a self tanner to avoid dots on your tan. Lasly make sure your skin is completely dry before application.

2.Apply In Sections

Apply the self-tanner to your body in sections, starting from your legs and working your way up your back, hips, stomach and torso and then shoulders and arms. Massage the self-tanner into your skin in a circular motion. For a natural look blend at your wrists and ankles by lightly extending the tanner from your wrists to your hands and from your ankles to your feet. Then dilute the tanner on your joints (knees, ankles and elbows) by lightly rubbing these with a damp towel or applying a thin layer of lotion on top of the self-tanner. Joints tend to absorb more self-tanner than the rest of the skin.

3.Allow Time To Dry

Give it a minimum of 10 minutes to completely dry before dressing. Avoid tight clothing and any physical activity (sweat could cause streaking) for t least 3 hours.

4.Wash Your Hands

This will prevent darkening of your palms and nails.

Types Of Self Tanners

Sprays

Spray self-tanner is going to give you the easiest most accurate application especially in the hard to get place like you’re back. A littler Reminder, after you spray yourself, rub product in to prevent streaks. Wash hands immediately.

Lotions

Lotions a good for the face and are easy to use because you can easily see when tanner has already been applied. Apply the lotion starting at your feet and working your way upward. Try to use long, smooth and circular strokes to make sure it is blended well. Wash hands immediately.

Mousses

If using a mousse, skip the moisturizing step because the mousse will not adhere to anything damp or wet. You will need to apply mousse quickly, with circular motions trying not to apply the same area twice. Wash hands immediately.
