Nail Fungus can be very unsightly and uncomfortable. Common signs that you may be experiencing an infection are white, yellow or in severe cases black, discoloration. This occurs under toenails or fingernails and, if left untreated, can further develop into a more serious infection resulting in crumbling of the nails and intense pain.
At the first sign of a fungal infection it is very important to begin treatment. In it’s beginning stages I recommend a home remedy.
Apple Cider Vinegar Nail Fungus Treatment
Acids occurring in apple cider vinegar naturally prevent the growth of fungus. Soak your infected fingers or toes in apple cider vinegar for 30 minutes twice a day. It is important to stay committed to this treatment until the fungus is gone. If you miss even one day, the fungus might recover forcing you to start the treatment over.
Hydrogen Peroxide Nail Fungus Treatment
Hydrogen peroxide frees it’s extra oxygen atom to initiate an oxidizing reaction, quickly killing the fungus. Mix equal parts 3% hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Soak the infected nails in this solution for 10 minutes, once a day. You must treat the fungus every day if you are serious about getting rid of your nail infection.
Baking Soda Nail Fungus Treatment
Baking soda causes an alkaline environment which fungi cannot survive in. Mix the baking soda with water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the infected nails. Allow to stand for 5 minutes, then rinse and dry completely. Repeat this process once a day until the infection is gone.
Orange Oil Nail Fungus Treatment
Mix a 5% to 10% solution of pure orange oil with equal parts vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Apply daily to the infection, on and under the nails until gone.
Vicks Vapor Rub Nail Fungus Treatment
Apply Vicks over the infected nail. Allow to air dry or cover with a band-aid. Repeat this process in the morning and at night until the infection is gone.
Note: For more serious infections use an over the counter treatment or contact your health care provider.
