In todays face paced world, it seems like reducing stress is always at the top of everyones to do list. Even thinking about your high levels of stress can cause them to rise, but there are things you can do to help reduce stress. The first is to take a few moments to just slow down and breathe. A good way to remember to do so, is to set up reminders in your calendar or an alarm on your phone that forces your to stop whatever you are doing and take a five minute break. Try to find a quiet place to breathe, mediate and help focus and center yourself. You will be amazed at how just a few minutes, a couple times a day can help those stress levels decrease.
Staying present in the moment can also help you reduce stress. When youre at lunch, dinner, or just grabbing a coffee, stop and enjoy the moment. Dont check your email or your voicemail instead focus on the food, the people you are with or even just the world around you. By taking some time away from your crazy day to enjoy life, you actually will feel less stressed.
Exercise is another great stress reliever. When the endorphins kick in, you will feel your stress begin to lift off. Exercise also helps to relieve tension in the body that can accumulate from carry around so much stress. On days when you dont have time to workout, try to do something nice for yourself. Whether its catching up with an old friend, taking a long hot bath, or even watching your favorite TV show, find an activity that leaves your feeling happy and relaxed.
