Artisanal or homemade soap has grown in popularity. Now you can join the trend by trying out one of the simple recipes listed below.
 
 

Coconut Oil Soap

Ingredients

  • 6.5 ounces palm oil
  • 6.5 ounces coconut oil
  • 7.5 ounces olive oil
  • 1.3 ounces castor oil
  • 8 ounces water
  • 3.1 ounces lye
  • 1 ounce of essential oil (lemongrass, lavender, peppermint, etc)

Directions

Mix your lye solution, and let it cool. Heat any solid oils, such as coconut oil, and then combine with all other oils. Once the lye and oil mixture are at 100 degrees, add the lye to the oil. Stir slowly until the oils and lye are combined, and then add the essential oil. Pour the soap into your soap mold and let sit for 24 hours. You can remove the soap from the mold and cut it into the desired pieces.
 

 

Herb Infused Soap

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces boiling water
  • 2 ounces lye
  • 5 ounces coconut oil
  • 7 ounces olive oil
  • 3 ounces sunflower oil
  • 1-ounce shea butter
  • 1-teaspoon essential oil of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs of your choice
  • 6 drops Vitamin E oil

Directions

Add dried herbs to the boiling to create an herb-infused water. Allow the water to cool to room temperature. Heat any solid oils, such as coconut oil, and then combine with all other oils, as well as the shea butter. Once the lye and oil mixture are at 100 degrees, add the lye to the oil. Stir slowly until the oils and lye are combined, and then add the essential oil, herb water and vitamin E drops. Pour the soap into your soap mold and let sit for 24 hours. You can remove the soap from the mold and cut it into the desired pieces.
 

 

Chai Latte Soap

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces lye
  • 3 ounces palm Oil
  • 3 ounces olive oil
  • 3 ounces coconut oil
  • 1.5 ounces cocoa butter
  • 1.5 ounces castor oil
  • 4 ounces water
  • 1 black tea bag
  • 1/8-teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8-teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8-teaspoon bergamot essential oil
  • 1/8-teaspoon lemongrass oil

Directions

Add spices and tea bag to the boiling to create a spice-tea infused water. Allow the water to cool to room temperature. Heat any solid oils, such as coconut oil, and then combine with all other oils, as well as the cocoa butter. Once the lye and oil mixture are at 100 degrees, add the lye to the oil. Stir slowly until the oils and lye are combined, and then add the essential oils and strained spiced tea. Pour the soap into your soap mold and let sit for 24 hours. You can remove the soap from the mold and cut it into the desired pieces.
