Question: Is acne during pregnancy normal?
The healthy glow many woman report during pregnancy isn’t the only thing that can happen to your skin. For some woman, acne can also develop. This is caused by an increase in oil production due to the rising hormone levels which occur in the first trimester. Not all pregnant women will develop pregnancy acne, but it is more common if you have history of acne, especially during your normal menstrual cycle.
The good news is that the chances of having acne during pregnancy decreases in the second and third trimesters. So, if you didn’t develop it in the beginning of your pregnancy, chances are you won’t develop it later. Should acne become an issue, be sure to consult your doctor before using any over-the-counter or prescription medicine, as not all acne treatments are safe to use while you are pregnant.
