Natural Remedies for Headaches

Headaches can pop up at the most inconvenient times, usually when you are out of aspirin. Fortunately, there are some natural remedies you can use instead to help get rid of your headache.

Apply Ice

One of the simplest things you can use is ice. After putting several cubes in a plastic bag or hand towel, apply the ice directly to the spot on your head that hurts the most and try and hold it there for 20 minutes. The cold from the ice helps to slow the blood flow down and ease the headache.

Essential Oils

Essential oils can also help to end your headache. For an on the spot treatment, rub a few drops of rosemary or thyme oil onto your temples and forehead and wait a few minutes for the relief to begin. As an alternative treatment, place a few drops of peppermint or lavender oils into a hot footbath. The oils work by drawing blood to your feet and away your head.

Select Teas

Gingerroot or chamomile teas are also great natural remedies for headaches. To create the gingerroot tea, just steep a few slices of ginger in two cups off water for about 30 minutes before drinking.

Vitamins

Take a daily supplement that contains vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and magnesium. Studies show that these two vitamins have helped reduce headaches. Talk to a doctor to see if they might help you.
