Question: How do you get cold sores?
Answer:
Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are usually found around the mouth and on the lips. They are caused by exposure to the herpes simplex virus-1 and HSV-2. When a break in the skin around or in your mouth comes in contact with someone who has a cold sore or the fluid from a cold sore, you can become infected with HSV. The virus can be passed by sharing razors, utensils, kissing or touching a cold sore.

While there is no cure for cold sores, some people who are exposed to the virus never develop symptoms. If you do develop cold sores they usually heal anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks.
