Question: When does menopause start?
Menopause starts when your periods have ended and your ovaries have stopped producing estrogen and progesterone. In most cases, this happens around age 51, but for some women premature menopause can begin as early as age 40. Your genes usually determine the age you will start menopause, so you may want to ask your mom or grandmother about their experience to help determine when you might start menopause. In addition to age, menopause can also be caused by an illness, disease or surgery.
