How to Lighten Skin

If you have dark spots or areas on your skin, you may be wondering what you can do to lighten them. Luckily, there are several natural, at-home remedies you can use to address the situation. Some of the most popular ingredients used to lighten skin include milk, yogurt, turmeric and lemon juice.

Lightening Skin Treatments

There are several skin treatments you can make at home to help lighten your skin. Papaya is one of those. You can make a paste out it and use it in the shower or you can buy a pre-made organic Papaya soap to have at the ready all the time. If you do use papaya, be sure to follow it up with a good moisturizer, as it can be very drying.

Lemon or lemon juice is probably one of the most popular ingredients used to help lighten skin. You can apply a lemon, cut in half, directly to your skin and let set for 10-20 minutes, or you can make a cream consisting of lemon juice and yogurt and apply that to your skin daily. Either option should work, so feel free to experiment until you find which one is right for you.

Milk is another great natural lightening product. It actually works as natural bleach. Start by pouring some milk into a bowl and then soak a towel or washcloth in the milk. Then, apply it generously to the area of your skin you wish to lighten.

Another all natural ingredient used to lighten skin is the spice known as turmeric. Combine turmeric and milk in a bowl to create a paste. Then apply that paste to clean skin and let sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse the paste off and wash your skin with a gentle cleanser. Pat dry and then apply some lemon juice to your skin using a cotton pad. Let the lemon juice sit on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing off and applying moisturizer.

Prevent Your Skin From Darkening

The best way to protect your skin and prevent dark spots from appearing or growing darker is by caring for your skin every day. The most important thing you can do for your skin is to always wear sunscreen, even on days when the sun is not so bright. Make sure the sunscreen you choose has UVA and UVB protection. Apply the sunscreen every morning after you have showered. Keeping your skin clean and free of dirt oil will also help keep darks spots at bay.

Drinking lots of water and eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables will also help protect your skin. Water and a healthy diet also helps to rid your skin of any toxins, which will keep your skin looking and feeling healthy, and reduce your chance of developing dark spots.
