What Causes Hair Breakage

Question: What causes hair breakage?
There are a lot of things you can do to your hair to cause breakage, including your styling habits, hair bleaching, coloring and perms. The chemicals used in these processes changes the hair’s structure, which makes it weaker and more susceptible to breakage.

Wearing your hair in tight braids or ponytails may also causes breakage, especially if you wear your hair this way everyday. Excessive use of thermal appliances such as blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons can leave your hair overly dry and brittle. While extensions and weaves are very trendy these days, they are not ideal for long-term wear because they put too much stress on your hair, which in turn can lead to breakage occurring at the root.

It is also a good idea not to over brush your hair because overtime, the friction caused by the hairbrush makes it brittle and more prone to breakage.
